Discovering the three Facets of France

Everyone who has a bucket list most probably has this item on it: Visit France. The European country is renowned for its picturesque sights, distinct architecture, rich cuisine and artistic pieces. It’s remarkable how most sites with historical value are preserved, and along with that we can surmise that the French place deep importance on their roots and heritage.

If you’re not into tradition, there are other convincing reasons to visit France. You might want to consider a French holiday because: it is the most romantic place on earth; it has gourmet dining in every corner; it has world-class art museums; it’s an ideal place for shopping; and, it has beautiful beaches. What more can you ask for? In a nutshell, France has three facets: poker, culture, and art. Why do we say so? Read on:

1. POKER

Few people know that the universal card game actually owes its origin to this country. It was primarily called poque in the 19th century, and instead of having the current fifty-two card deck, it had only twenty. France is also the birthplace of the famous casino games roulette and blackjack. To experience them firsthand, make it a point to drop by Aviation Club de France so you can satisfy your casino cravings.

Since France is poker’s hometown, expect that the locals are masters when it comes to the card game. Don’t fret; you just have to allow yourself sometime to polish your game by gathering your friends for a poker night, or by playing online. Before you know it, you’ll also be a hardcore player in no time. There’s no reason why your technique and strategy won’t work, and what better place to practice your moves than in the country which started the card game?

2. CULTURE

Centre Georges Pompidou

When we talk about French cuisine we immediately think “rich”. The word can also describe French theater, entertainment, fashion, and literature. Practically every movie shot in France gives us a peek into the way of life of the French, and so far, we’re never disappointed. If you came for performances, you don’t even have to pay handsomely for a ticket; just walk along the streets of Paris where street performers abound. They’ll definitely dazzle you, but not as much as a lighted Eiffel Tower would. Just so you know, the cultural hub of Paris is the Centre Georges Pompidou.

3. ART

Lovers of aesthetics all flock to France for their dose of beauty appreciation. Prominent museums like The Louvre (home to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa) and Musée d’Orsay (where the works of Van Gogh and Manet are showcased) are the usual stops. Don’t forget to marvel at the Arc de Triomphe and the Notre Dame Cathedral if you’re an architecture fan.
