The twentieth Commonwealth Games will be organized in Glasgow of Scotland (United Kingdom). The Games will last for 11 days – from July 23rd to August 3rd, 2014. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and, as of the 2011 census, is the Scottish city with the highest population density with 3,395 people per square kilometre. It is situated on the River Clyde in the country’s West Central Lowlands.
This is the third times that Scotland hosts the competitions. The last two times were in 1970 and 1986 in Edinburgh city. This Commonwealth Games will be the biggest one as well the biggest multi-sports tournament ever held in Scotland, UK. Over the last ten years, Scotland had organized World, Commonwealth, European and British events in all 17 sports proposed for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, including the World Badminton Championships in the year of 1997.
Venues
The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will offer three compact site clusters for 14 competition venues together with one athletes village within the City of Glasgow. These will make the most of the City’s extensive sporting and events infrastructure.
