On New Years Eve, the sky will be lighten up with a sensational city funded fireworks display. From our experience Canberra is not a target destination for the 20 year old traveler demographic for New Year’s Eve. We’ve spoken to many punters from Canberra and surrounds over the years. The local venues sell out with the natural domestic population.

A centre piece of NYE in Canberra is the fabulous fireworks launched over Lake Burley Griffin. There is plenty of lawn and park space for vantage points. There are also a number of venues close by that would have advantage for the fireworks.

Two fireworks displays at 9pm and 12am will be visible from most locations in the city centre, but the best views are in Civic Square. Another popular vantage point is the Patrick White Lawns beside Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, where families can enjoy a picnic while watching the fireworks.

Canberra will welcome in the new year with parties in Garema Place and Civic Square on New Years Eve. Local bands Dos Locos and Plump will perform on stage in Civic Square from 7pm.
