Monkey Island is located on Hon Lao Is land in Nha Phu Bay, 15km north of Nha Trang city, Vietnam. There are numerous islands of various sizes in the area popular with visitors, but Monkey Island stands out. Besides swimming and diving the many people who visit get a chance to inter act with the permanent residents of the island: cute monkeys.
To reach Monkey Island, travel to Da Chong Harbour and from there it’s a 15 minutes boat ride. From a distance, the island beckons with lush greenery, count less coconut trees, attractive white sand beaches and the blue sea gently throwing waves on the beach. Once there first thing is first, you have to say hi to the monkeys. Their feeding ground is located deep in the island’s interior, which you reach by tram. In less than 5 minutes, you will be among primates of various sizes and experience their world. The island is home to more than 1,200 monkeys. They are split into two species the Macaca Rherus and the Macaca Fas sicularit. They live in big groups of about 300 monkeys and divide their natural habitat among them.
The deeper you venture into the island, the more monkeys you will encounter. Baby monkeys cling to their mothers, while studying their guests with big round eyes. Being well accustomed to humans, the monkeys don’t shy away from visitors and can get too close so go with a tour guide to avoid any possible danger. An offering of popcorn or small fruits which you can spread on the ground around you will guarantee you’ll be surrounded by a whole flock of monkeys within minutes. There is more on offer than just visiting the monkeys in their natural habitat. Your little ones will especially love watching trained monkeys and dogs that can cycle and ride bikes and there are dog races too.
And non-monkey activities await you as well: racing, elephant riding, ostrich riding, jet skiing, diving to see corals… After a busy day packed with recreational activities all you’ll want to do is relax on the beach and enjoy a fresh coconut while listening to the whisper of sea You can organise a one-day trip to Monkey Island or spend a night for a more laid back schedule.
